Seriously…

I need a job.

Like, now.

The market is so freakin’ bleak right now. Nobody seems to understand this.

I am in a situation lately where everyone ignores my requests. I email people asking them for help – just saying “hey, is there anything open by you?”…and they don’t even bother replying.

If anyone in the Chicago area knows of ANY job openings I can qualify for that can help me out, that would be much appreciated. I am starting to think that there’s nothing in IT anymore, so at this point, I’ll take anything. Actually, I would take a help desk position at this point, if it was in the city, just to get “in” at a company.

Thanks for listening, erm, reading.

  1. Believe me, I understand and I sympathize.
There are no good jobs in IT.
People do not bother replying to anyone. Welcome to the IT Black Hole.
Most jobs now seem to require management experience, willingness to relocate or travel heavily, or being on call 24-7.
Every once in a while I get clued in on something job-related that looks vaguely decent. I will post it on my journal in the future.

Hell, I’m just talking about friends who I email asking about this and get no reply.

I’ve discovered that there are plenty of jobs…they’re just all in the suburbs.

  4. Blargh. I totally feel your pain.

Um, maybe check out these posts. I have no idea if they’re still open, or are something you’re interested in, but I left comments asking.

  6. there really isn’t jack out there. the ppl that have i.t. jobs in the city hang onto them for dear life because they pay more than they would in the burbs. of course, most of the ones in the burbs would be hard to get to without wheels, though you’d be surprised how easy some places are to get to. i didn’t think i’d be able to commute via cta to skokie until i actually figured it all out.

  9. I wish I had some infinite words of wisdom. But I;m in the same job dry spell you are. I’m sure you are using all the available online resources…craigslist and many, many staffing agencies downtown have been successful for me.

So…yeah. I hear ya preachin’ brotha’ man. Keep fighting the good fight.

  12. IBM is hiring. In Chicago. There might be a match. Sadly, I don’t know anyone in IBM Chicago. But, there is a wide range of the travelling consulting jobs available – some of them are not application related.

  15. I hear ya. I have been complaining about jobs in the suburbs since I moved back here from college in, uh, 1993? I can’t tell you over the years how many jobs in Schaumburg I have turned down. We didn’t have a car until last year. I have commuted regularly to work in places like Park Ridge, Itasca, Northlake, and my personal all-time favorite, Hoffman Estates.

  17. *hugs*
Sorry honey. I was out of a *real* job for a year. I do feel your pain and frustration. I hope you find something soon.
