Hmmm…

So I was talking to a couple friends last night on this subject.

I have never been “set up” in my entire life. Not to say that I *want* to be set up. But I find it interesting, and even a little disappointing, that none of my friends have ever suggested that I be “set up” with one of their friends. However, I have a couple of guy friends that my friends are always “pushing” on their girlfriends.

I have a couple theories on why this might be. One is that the majority of my friends have known me as a single guy – they associate Mugsy with “single guy who doesn’t have a girlfriend”, so they figure that I’m content with that, and they’re more worried about the friends of mine who they associate with being in a relationship. If that makes sense.

Of course, the insecure jackass part of me thinks that it’s because the friends they encourage to meet their girlfriends are more attractive and interesting than I am. I was discussing this with a buddy, who pointed out that most of my friends probably just think I’m asexual. I don’t know. What’s the deal? Please be honest. I won’t be offended, and please don’t reply to this just to placate my ego. I really want to know the rational behind this phenomenon.

  1. Well, I don’t know you all that well, but considering you know all my swing dance friends and all my non-swing dance friends are losers…

  2. How bout ‘none of the above’? Most of my friends already know each other or else they’re so different that I can’t imagine putting them together. So setting someone up becomes a challenge.

  8. It was more hypothetical. So maybe you have hypothetically single chick friends. Heh.

I was told tonight that if I was whinier, I’d get set up more. That made me laugh as well.

  9. But I can’t stress this enough…

…I don’t actually WANT to be set up πŸ™‚

  11. I was thinking the same thing a while ago. I have never been set up by friends either. Partially because I don’t have a huge circle of friends to begin with. Those I do have don’t have eligible bachelor friends to set me up with. Or, maybe people don’t set me up with their friends because they know what a freak I am. It definitley could be that too.

I think under the right circumstances it isn’t a bad thing. You have to have a friend that really knows you well, and knows what you would be looking for. Then if they think they have something there, they probably do.

  13. Right. My bigger concern was “why set up this other guy instead of me?” Especially since the other fella is ALWAYS getting set up by these same people, who are mutual friends of both of us πŸ™‚

  15. Oh, different problem. But, thanks for giving me a chance to rant about my issue too. πŸ™‚
