What’s going on with what’s going down

I haven’t posted much in the way of updates lately, so here’s some stuff.

Work
It’s work-tastic. Fat Johnny is leaving our team in a few weeks, which sucks. Although at least he still works at the Bank, so I can continue to ask him dumb questions.

Apartment
Last night Carrie and I got the last few things from our respective old places. It feels good to have everything moved in. We’re about 75% done unpacking, although the next step is going to be going through everything and making a lot of donations to the Salvation Army. Also, I need a drill.

Wedding
A date has been set (May 26, 2007), and a location booked for the ceremony (Old St. Pat’s downtown). We’re working on the reception venue right now. We looked at the Swissotel last week, but decided it was much too small. Plus, it was on the 40th floor (which had great views), but our smoker friends would have to go down 40 floors to smoke. Which meant that we would never see Chris at the entire wedding. So that was nixed. On Tuesday we looked at the City Center Hotel on Ohio at Fairbanks, and so far, that’s the frontrunner. Saturday we’re going to look at the James Hotel, but hopefully we’ll have something booked in the next week or so. Carrie has a problem with The Knot. Like, an addiction problem. I have a problem with The Knot as well. Like, it’s a terrible website that makes me want to throw things while ranting about usability and design.

Friends
Do I still have those things? I haven’t seen much of anyone except Brian and Tracy lately. I blame moving. I should call some people.

  1. Get this drill. Ryobi 7.2V cordless drill with 26-piece bit set. I got it a few weeks ago and it ROCKS. We used it quite a bit to put together the Ikea furniture, since it has, like, five allen wrench attachments and a bunch of screwdriver bits. Variable speed, reversible, magnetic screwdriver bits. Awesome, and it’s only 30 bucks. Can’t beat it.

  3. Matty hun,

I am starting to realize that I’ve had my head in the perverbial social sand for a long time now and have been not only out of the loop but out of touch for what seems like forever but at the very least a long time now.

Part of that included being away from LJ and was missing out on life updates for people who I do care about but happen to be located no where near me. (Sadly The out of touch reality of mine includes everyone regardless of location.)

I’ve been a bad friend. Forgive me as I don’t think I have offered you both a congratulations on your engagement. I wanted you to know I am so happy you have found an awsome woman to share your life with. Mazel Tov sweetie!

Its been a while since I’ve been to Chi-town and too long since I’ve seen you. I guess neither of us has the need to go outside and bond about not finding the right girl/guy and there will be no more ‘dating updates’ that I can laugh and cringe at the next morning. I’d say its a more than fair trade. *grins*

    *BIG Hug to you*

  4. Funny about The Knot. When my best friend got married she wouldn’t get off that website (that, and WeddingChannel.com). She posted on the forums, and I swear had her entire wedding figured out and planned within two weeks of her engagement. You can remind Carrie she has an entire year to plan!

Glad you picket out a date though – I think that is the hardest part.

    Hugs,
    d

  6. haha… we work on http://www.weddingwindow.com, so we’re always thinking about how the hell to ever beat theknot.com in the rankings. other than that, i’m pretty sure that is the most obsessed i will ever be with theknot.com. PLEASE HOLD ME TO THAT IN 20 YEARS WHEN I FINALLY POSSIBLY MAYBE DECIDE TO GET MARRIED.

glad everything is going well!! šŸ™‚

  7. Everyone keeps telling me that once you get the locations nailed down, the rest is cake. Some of it, literally.

The Knot makes my head explode…but I sometimes ignore that for browsing through the wedding dresses. šŸ™‚ I also like the countdown feature, especially now that it seems to be ticking by so fast. 345 days for us!!

  15. I haven’t really looked at The Knot yet. I think I will be checking it out soon though to see if anyone has recommendations or warnings about the front-runner wedding coordinating companys in St. Thomas, though.

    Isn’t this all fun!?!!?!

    Coongrats on the new place!
