And we’re off…

Just took a 90 minute ride. Rode from my house to the lakefront, and then took the path all the way down to just past the S curve. Estimated round-trip was about 14 miles.

I’m looking forward to getting my bike computer so I can accurately record my mileage.

  1. I highly recommend using a heart rate monitor. It’s the best way to gauge how hard you’re working.

  3. Hm. The one I got doesn’t have an HRM, but I think I’ll be okay for now (at this point in my fat-assedness, ANY activity like this will burn the crap out of my fat). I mostly just want to know how fast and how far I am going for my own curiousity.

But you’re probably right. I should have done the HRM one. Although when I used to wear an HRM in the gym (the chest band types) they drove me nuts.

  5. Your woman is awesome! If you guys exercise together you are not only going to both get and stay healthy, but it will improve your relationship. πŸ™‚ Ok, now I want to drag Mr. T out on a hike again.

  10. Make sure you check out that Price Point website where I got mine – they have a ton of awesome deals on all sorts of bike stuff.

  11. Well, she IS awesome, but the last two days of riding were by myself. She went with me on Sunday and Monday though, and we’re going for a ride tomorrow.

We’re both working on fitness though – eating better together, and, for instance, she didn’t ride with me yesterday but she went to the gym. Although it’s much more fun when she DOES ride with me, I’ll admit it.

  14. Bah to bike computers. I got a GPS. Now I never have to figure out the circumference of my wheels, and it opens up worlds of geekiness.

  16. I was totally drooling over the bike computers with built in GPS, but they cost so much it would have been a lot harder to hide the purchase πŸ™‚

  18. I can’t work out as much as he can, because he is in better shape and I’m still having pain problems and lack of energy due to surgery sometimes, but it is really fun those times it works out. One thing we do is sometimes I’ll walk and he’ll run, but when he is done running he runs the other way to come get me. πŸ™‚ That way it is safe, but we both get exercise.

  26. I do use that. But it isn’t accurate for me, since I ride on a bike path that’s not on the map – but I get a fairly close estimate.

  29. Matt-

I’m a bike dork (you know this) so don’t hesitate to contact me for any advice in terms of gear, HR monitor, bike computer, etc, etc.

Chana is right – if yo can get a HR monitor that would be fantastic. Even a cheap one. Just get an idea of what your HR is dong when you’re riding. A baseline so-to speak.

    Good luck!
