Scattered thunderstorms. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the upper 40s.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 68.

The worst part about all of this is figuring out what the impact is for the photos. All of our photos are outside, obviously, and in various locations. When we talked to our photographer the other day, she brought up the possibility of inclement weather, and suggested we discuss backup plans. She suggested if it wasn’t storming, we could do some of the photos in the rain, if we obtained large golf umbrellas for everyone (18 x $12 = eep!). Also, we came up with an indoor location for the photos – the Garfield Park Conservatory. This place is really pretty, and has a lot of neat places to photograph inside.

Problem? To shoot wedding photos there, you need a permit from the Chicago Park District. $50/hour. No big deal…except….

…you have to apply for the permit 14 days in advance.

I don’t have the slightest idea what we’re going to do.

UPDATE: Just got off the phone with the nice people at the Chicago Park District. We will have our permit by Wednesday. Whew!

  1. The best wedding advice I ever got was… You have spent so much time up until the wedding slaving over details and making sure everything runs perfectly, but chances are everything won’t run perfectly. So, on the day, just let it go. Just enjoy your day, remember what it is about and if something goes wrong, don’t sweat it.

Oh and also make sure to find time to enjoy each other and have little moments together.

  2. Sorry about the weather. We didn’t get to do any photos outside and we had great weather. You may want to scope out other areas of the church (stairwells, entrances, etc).

I don’t want to bring you down, but realistically, you should expect somethings to not go as planned. I didn’t get half the pictures I wanted (because of time, we couldn’t get outside) so I made sure our photographers got a lot of candid shots. As it turns out, these are the ones I used in the book and printed more than the planned portrait shots.

Your day will be perfect. The only thing that HAS to happen that day is you two get married 🙂

  3. Exactly!!!!

  4. The problem is, our photos have to be before the ceremony, because of how things are scheduled, etc. And because there are like fifty billion weddings each day at OSP, we cannot get into the church beforehand in order to do shots there inside. Sucks.

We’re saved by the nice people at the Park District who are going to accelerate my permit app so we can take the pictures at the Conservatory if the weather sucks ass.

At this point, all I’m hoping for is that it’s not thunderstorming at 2:15 PM, which is when Carrie and I will be photographed for our “meeting” on the Wacker/Michigan Ave bridge. That’s about the only one that really HAS to be outside. The rest we can make up at the Conservatory and in the church after the ceremony.

  5. And I am with you – I, for one, am more looking forward to the “captured moments” than the formal portraits. But we gotta get the formal portraits for the family’s sake.

Plus, with as much as this photographer is costing us, we better get a ton of photos. I think that’s why I’m the most freaked out about this, because it’s SO MUCH MONEY.

  7. Rain is good luck, and the Garfield Conservatory is WAY cool (especially with that Niki de Sainte Phalle exhibit throughout), but I made sure to wash my car 2 days ago to do what I can to draw the rain AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY from Saturday.

    Have a wonderful day!!!
