Supposedly this is a Really Big Deal

So last night Carrie and I bought furniture for the first time together. Funny thing was, as we walked into the store, Carrie got really excited.

“We’re buying furniture together,” she said. “I feel like this is a really big step in our marriage.”

I was a little confused. “But, we bought a car together. That car was a lot more money that this furniture will be.”

She shook her head. “No, this is different.”

Anyway, we got a new couch and a new dining room table. Our current couch is pretty much shot – although I’m sure we’ll get some cash for it on Craigslist. The new couch is not a sleeper, but we don’t think we needed one, since we have a) a guest room and b) an air mattress. The new couch is really comfortable, and made out of a fabric that should be pretty easy to wipe Scout fur off of. This will be a good couch to put in the basement/family room when we finally get a house.

The dining room table is much bigger than our current one (well, it can be, with the leaves in). We also now have six nice new dining room chairs.

We got a pretty darn good deal on all the furniture (yay JCPenney!) It gets delivered a week from today. Funny thing is – the furniture will be delivered during the day, and then I will be picking Carrie up from work so we can go Up North. So she won’t get to see our new stuff until we get home late on Sunday night.

  1. hi! Just so you know, we are coming home on Monday night! 🙂

  2. Oh, whoops.

Well, that’s ONE MORE DAY you won’t get to see the new couch! Mwaahahahahahahahahahah…

  3. Congratulations!

I must say me selling “my car” and us getting the Mini together was a HUGE deal for me because Erik still has “his truck” so there was a weird possession thing to get over. The Mini title is in both our names. We both paid for the car equaly and make payments equaly so it’s “our” car. We both have a say in it’s wellfair and how it’s driven I guess.

However the Vespa…she is mine all mine! 😉

  5. no, i totally get that. will and i moved in together, and it didnt seem like nearly as big of a deal as when we picked out a coffee table…

i think it has something to do with buying things for the home that you share, while a car is just a thing that you own.

    nyah?

  6. Yup, buying furniture that you will use in your new home is a big deal, and it is more personal than a car. You live in your furniture. Some day you may be sitting on that couch with your children in your lap, reading them a story.

  8. Every time we buy something new i make a big deal out of it and Doug makes fun of me in this insane voice he uses when poking fun at me and my excitment.

Furniture is a HUGE deal to a new couple , Taste are often so different and people will see this and sit on it when your entertaining so it is a direct connection to the new married couple you are. A car you sit on and go from place to place in how often do you entertain in your car?.

Some day i will get new living room furniture i can hardly wait.

Still freaks me out to think someday you guys will be burby people, and not city Matt
